Kindness
I am always patient with students and do not submit to feelings of annoyance— my goal is to help each student succeed and meet his/her goals, and I do not lose sight of that objective.
Creativity
One of my strengths is the ability to explain a single concept in many ways, allowing the student options for how to understand something. I'm not afraid to act silly or come up with an odd memory hook; I will be creative and make myself vulnerable... whatever it takes for the kids to succeed!
Efficiency
My goal is to help every student as much as I can. This means throughout every session both your child and I will spend every moment working toward that target. Whether conversing about algebraic processes or working side-by-side in grammar/writing workbooks, our time will be optimized.
Competence
I know my stuff. It is a rare occasion that I Google something. Unfortunately, I have heard some tutors constantly look up information throughout sessions because it simply isn't memorized. This simply isn't efficient. If I am not equipped to assist, I will be open about it.
Focus
You are paying me for my time. It is my integrity to deliver on that promise— this means no texting or any other distractions, and my focus is entirely devoted to the student and his/her academic material.
Personable
Although conversations in our tutoring sessions are centered around academia, while we set up at the start of each session I make a point of briefly asking how the student is doing and about life in general. I express that I care about the student as a person during these moments.
