What You Need to Know
...before you schedule a lesson.
-
How does scheduling work?A standard (minimum) session is 60 minutes. Additional time can be scheduled in 15-minute increments. For example, we can schedule a session for 1 hour, 1 hour 15 min, 1 hour 30 min, 1 hour 45 min, etc. Tutoring sessions can be set for a weekly routine or booked as needed.
-
What is your cancellation policy? This business has a 24-hour cancellation policy. Cancellations made within 24 hours of a session result in the following consequences: 1st offense: A warning will be sent. 2nd offense: Payment worth 50% of the time booked. 3rd offense: Payment in full (100%) for the entire time booked. After 3 offenses I will only continue to work with the client if they pay 50% or 100% of the booked session BEFORE it begins. If one does not provide payment after a 2nd or 3rd offense they will no longer be able to book sessions at all. *Please note that a warning for the first offense allows for the fact that life happens.
-
What are your rates?Contact me for information on rates.
-
What forms of payment do you accept?Digital Forms of Payment: Venmo* PayPal Zelle *My preference is Venmo due to a couple specific features, but I am open to using the others as well. Physical Forms of Payment: I do accept cash, if it is delivered. While I do accept checks, in the past a couple checks have bounced, so I try to avoid these uncomoftable situations by encouraging other forms of payment.
-
What is your availability? Please contact me to find out what my current availability is.
-
How can I contact you?For our initial point of contact, please send me an email at havarschultz@gmail.com, or fill out the contact form on this website.
-
Where do you tutor?I tutor remotely, selecting various digital platforms and technology based on what makes the most sense for each student's situation. Typically students use one or more of the following: FaceTime, Skype, email, Google Docs.
-
What subjects do you tutor?I currently assist with a wide variety of subjects, including math, writing/grammar, reading, science, and social studies. I can also assist as a homework tutor and provide guidance in soft skills. Visit the Subjects section to learn more!
-
Do you work well with students who have different learning abilities?Yes. In my many years of tutoring I have helped a diverse group of learners, including students with ADD, ADHD, dyslexia, dyscalculia, and autism.
-
Can I send you a math problem (or other assignment) if I (my child) need(s) help outside of tutoring?I do not assist with coursework outside of tutoring sessions. However, during our sessions I do create neat, organized, and colorful handwritten notes that the student can keep for reference on future assignments and use in studying. This way, even when I'm not with the student, my help is always present. I am also always happy to try to arrange time for additional tutoring sessions as well.
-
What makes you unique as a tutor? That's what this entire website is meant to cover! However, to direct you to specific pages, I suggest you watch my video on the Home page, read about my philosophies and values, and get to know me on the About Me page. If you aren't sure if you believe me, feel free to read a testimonial by a former client.
-
How long have you been tutoring?I have been tutoring for 8 years. The 2020-2021 school year is my 9th year tutoring.
-
What is your educational background? The University of Houston is my alma mater. I maintained my position on the Dean's List throughout college, scored straight A's at Bellaire High School, and made equivalent grades in middle school as well. Feel free to read more about me on the About Me page.
-
Do you offer both one-on-one and group tutoring?Yes, I offer both one-on-one sessions and group sessions (2-3 students). Rates vary based on the number of students.
-
What tools do you provide, and what tools do(es) I (my child) need to bring?"It is important that both the tutor and the student arrive at each session prepared to work as efficiently as possible. As the tutor, I have materials I need to create the handy notes I promise. However, the student needs to have his/her own pencil(s)/pen(s), paper for taking notes, anything provided by the school (class notes, handouts, workbooks, assignments, graded work, past tests and quizzes, etc.). I do have upper level math textbooks and some of my notes from my time as a student, but it is important that the student bring his/her own course material so that we ensure we study the material in a way that will help him/her succeed in his/her class; bear in mind that the class I took may have been structured differently, and textboks can differ from school to school.
